The Kitchen Reveal: Before and After

Here it is…the moment you’ve all been waiting for.  Only 7 months of waiting, right?  I know you’re all skipping straight to the photos, so I may as well get right to it.

Here’s the before:

And now (drum roll please…..):

So? What’s the verdict? I should add that I’m going to also add a roman shade to the window above the sink, and curtains for the patio door. The fabric has been ordered but will only arrive in July (gulp…) and I didn’t want to prolong the reveal any further.

I’m really really pleased with the end result. It’s everything I envisioned and more. The 6 months of intense and exhausting work has most definitely paid off.

I’ve only showed photos of the kitchen from one angle. That’s because the view from the other direction looks like this:

THIS, my friends, is our next project. More to come in the next few posts….!

  1. I looked at the first photo and thought hey, the kitchen didn’t look too shabby to begin with…. however…….

I kept scrolling and BAM…it hit me immediately when I saw the first new photo.

WOW, comparing the two, I much perfer your style and design. It is somewhere I’d want to spend lots and lots of time. So cosy and inviting! Can you picture lots of future kitchen Parties?

    IT IS TRULY FABULOUS!!

  2. I love, love, love your kitchen! It turned out absolutely amazing!
I was even more excited when I saw that you used Torquay which we are putting in our new kitchen.
Question for you about your Torquay, did you have any random black spots/dots in your counters or your slab if you saw it prior to cutting? I just went to see mine that they ordered and there are about 4 random dark gray/black dots in the slab. Not huge, but still noticeable and out of place. I definitely think these are imperfections in the material, but wanted to ask you since you have Torquay as well.

Appreciate the help and great job on your reno!

    • Hi Ashlee, thanks for your feedback! It’s been a few months since we finished our kitchen and I’m still in love. I didn’t notice any noticeable black spots on our counters, but I wouldn’t be surprised if there are some imperfections. I’m no expert on quartz, but even though it’s a man-made material, it’s still mostly made up of natural elements, so imperfections must be likely. Hope it helps!

  3. Your kitchen is wonderful! I love the design, the lighting the island, the encased appliances… I love it all. Are you willing to share who your designer is and who installed the cabinets, counter etc. Thanks!

    • Hi caitlyn,
Thank you so much for your kind words. I got the countertops at BAB Distribution (they have gorgeous stuff!), and the hardware was from Richelieu. The cabinets were done by Armodec and we used a designer from their shop, but to be quite honest I wouldn’t recommend them. I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted so it was mostly a matter of them executing my vision, but the service was less than ideal. Let me know if you need any more info!

      • Sure, Caitlin. To add a facade to a fridge, you need to buy what’s called a panel-ready fridge. Basically, the fridge is identical to a regular fridge, but it comes without the stainless steel facade in front. For the same fridge model that is available both as panel-ready or regular, the panel-ready one will cost less, but bear in mind that getting a custom cabinet panel for a fridge can be costly. The cabinet panel is not a standard cabinet door but a custom panel that is thin and gets glued on to the fridge. Not all stores carry these types of fridges, so you have to ask, but if you live in Montreal, you can pick from a few models at JC Perreault or Signature Bachand. Hope this helps! Are you in the middle of a kitchen reno yourself?

      • Thank you so much! Yes we live in MTL, we have bought a house in Beaconsfield and are moving in May. The kitchen will need to be re-done so we have started our research and I keep referring back to your kitchen because I love it!
